Latest Painting Holiday

The Tarn Region of France, July 2018

Always wanted to try a Painting Holiday? Couple it with a bit of luxury?

Then contact me for details of my next Painting Holiday in the Tarn region of South West France in July 2018.

This tutored holiday is open to beginners as well as more experience painters alike.

My course in the Tarn region of South West France will focus on aspects of colour, line and composition. With a relaxed yet informative manner, I will demonstrate how not to be afraid of using colour in the landscape and how drawing and sketching can inform and further your ‘plein air’ painting. Sketch book work coupled with regular 1 to 1 tuition, will help you develop your personal style. You will have fun experimenting with techniques and processes during a productive and relaxing week in a truly fantastic location.

Tutoring Plein Air Painting at Posara, Tuscany, Italy - The Watermill, in Posara

22.07.2017 - 29.07.2017

There is nothing like drawing and painting outside on location.

In Tuscany, I demonstrated numerous drawing and painting techniques with an emphasis on colour, line and atmosphere. The Watermill and its surroundings formed a beautiful backdrop to experiment with colour and drawing.

Acrylics/Watercolours incorporating conte/pastel.

I am passionate about working outside, tutoring numerous day and residential plein air holidays. I try to lead by example, creating a relaxed and encouraging environment. I adore using colour while interpreting the light, weather and a love for the materials. I work directly in the field (literally on many occasions!) from sketches created outside as well as notes and photographs taken on location.

Sketching is at the heart of my work: This is important in the development of a piece and on many occasions, forming an integral part of the painting itself. I work a lot on coloured grounds, incorporating aspects of mark-making and directional brushstrokes within the work. I continue to draw inspiration from the landscape, although subject matter can be broad and at times very different.
